Best Practices for Christmas

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, but so many retail brands get caught up in the very best marketing campaigns and leave their gift cards looking like it did in Spring, Summer and Autumn. Some don’t mention them at all, and this is a real wasted opportunity.  It’s not too late to adapt your campaigns to inspire gift card sales for the festive season and gift cards are extremely viable gifts for all kinds of people as the big day draws closer. 

Now is the time to switch the focus towards your gift card programme, which is likely to have many USPs. 

USPs to touch on may include; 

  • Any denomination – no minimum spend 

  • Easy to pick 

  • Let them choose what they would like 

  • Sent in appropriate Christmas wrapping/ free card/ Choose a design 

  • Expiry dates 

  • Delivery methods (Fast, tracked, online, Digital wallet) 

 

How to promote your Christmas gift cards 

Email marketing 

Email marketing is the perfect place to promote gift cards and eGifts, due to the nature of things being ‘last minute’ you can certainly pick up some sales very close to your seasonal cut off dates. 

Sample subject lines: 

  • It’s not too late to get a BRAND NAME gift card

  • Who’s that special someone you’ve forgotten to buy for?

  • Last minute instant delivery gift? We’ve got you. 

  • We bet there’s someone you’ve forgotten. Send them this!

Custom seasonal landing pages and PPC 

Paid for adverts that drive people to a custom landing page will allow you to capture those last minute sales. Don’t forget to include your delivery times and details in the AdCopy so people don’t arrive and bounce, disappointed. Ensure you have hit your key USPs within the copy and made the page festive and welcoming! 

Partnerships

If you have partnerships in place, it’s not too late to reach out and offer a seasonal discount, promotional marketing designs or anything else that they may require. Speak to those people in your network and see what they might need. 

In store and online promotion

If you have a physical store presence now is the time to present gift cards at the till and engage with employees to promote them as an option. If you are an eCommerce store, bring out those pop up banned on site and experiment with buttons and icons to draw attention to your gift cards. If items are out of stock or can’t be received in time for Christmas, add text and a link to your gift card.
